Dear Students and Parents,
I hope that you have been enjoying your summer break and getting plenty of rest and relaxation. The School and District Administrators have been working feverishly this summer to prepare for the 2015-2016 school year. During this preparation, we have worked to offer various summer school activities and opportunities for students, which range from a summer STEM program, summer feeding at several sites, and summer academic enrichment opportunities at our high schools and primary schools. You can visit various links on our website for more information about these offerings.
However, the bulk of our work during the summer is to prepare for the upcoming school year. This preparation includes refreshing our 1:1 laptop program at both high schools. Students will continue to have the opportunity to use a school laptop. However, we’ve added to the program by providing a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program that gives parents the option to purchase the same device from our vendor for the same price the school district pays. In addition, each middle school will have a cart of laptops for each grade level. We are so excited about our technology opportunities.
Also, Bladen County Schools is the recipient of a Golden Leaf grant for $336,000. This grant has been provided to implement a STEM academy at Elizabethtown Middle School as well as STEM curriculum at all other middle schools. So, middle school students, get ready to have fun while learning about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics!
These are just a few of the things we are working on during the summer. Enjoy the remainder of your summer, read plenty of books, and be sure to get some exercise and sun! Thanks for all your support and we look forward to seeing you in August!
