At the August 8, 2016 Board of Education meeting, information and action items were presented as follows:

  • Approved fundraiser requests for Bladenboro Middle School cheerleaders car wash, West Bladen High School FFA plant sell, West Bladen FFA fruit sell, West Bladen FFA handmade ag items, West Bladen FFA school spirit items, Tar Heel Middle raffle tickets, Tar Heel Middle Mr. & Miss Pageant, Tar Heel Middle CMI sells, Elizabethtown Middle doughnut sell, Elizabethtown Middle school spirit items, Elizabethtown Middle lollipop sells, Elizabethtown Middle talent show, Elizabethtown Middle school dance.
  • Approved Title I application for the 2016-2017 school year located here.
  • Approved Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plan components for the 2016-2017 school year located here.

Superintendent's Report:
  • Thanked board members that were able to attend the Principals Summer Leadership conference held at Cape Fear Vineyard on August 1, 2, and 3; this year all assistant principals were included in the leadership conference.
  • Shared that the Early Bird Laptop Deployment at both high schools began that day (Aug. 8) and will also take place on Monday, August 15 at both high schools.
  • Invited board members to attend the New Teacher Orientation breakfast on Tuesday, August 16 at 8:30 at the Paul R. Brown school.
  • Dr. Taylor reminded board members that Opening Day Convocation activities would be on Tuesday, August 23. The event will be held in the Elizabethtown Middle School gym beginning at 8:30. Following convocation, BCS staff will be attending district-wide professional development workshops. The workshops will take place on the campus of Elizabethtown Middle School.
  • Acknowledged that reminders would be shared with BCS educators about the district's tuition reimbursement program.
