Fayetteville State University Named a Partner in National Study Supported by U.S. Department of Education

{Fayetteville, North Carolina} Fayetteville State University has been named a partner in a national study funded by the U.S. Department of Education aimed at transforming K-12 and higher education through innovative technology and teaching methods. The Principal Investigator for the School of Education’s subcontractor award is Dr. Noran L. Moffett, Professor of Education & Associate Dean.

In 2013, Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala., was awarded a $12 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s highly competitive Investing in Innovation (i3) program to establish the Collaborative Regional Education (CORE) Initiative. Now entering its third year, JSU is extending the program to six regional universities that will work to expand the CORE model and implement a rigorous research study of approximately 40 classrooms in 8th-12th grades across the nation.

Local Education Agencies (LEAs) collaborating with Fayetteville State University are Bladen County Schools, Superintendent Dr. Robert Taylor and Hoke County Schools, Superintendent Dr. Freddie Williamson.  During the implementation phase, the regional study will begin with the LEAs identification and nomination of teachers from eligible participating schools for consideration in the study.

The universities will work with local school systems to implement the CORE model. The CORE model contains six parts: Partnership building, technology, professional development, project-based learning, classroom support and dual enrollment.

The universities will expand the national study by supporting selected teachers to administer the College and Work Readiness Assessment (CWRA+) and participate in professional development.

Jacksonville State University is a multi-purpose, comprehensive university located in northeast Alabama. For more information about JSU, visit www.jsu.edu. For more information about CORE, visit www.corepartners.org or email corepartners@jsu.edu.
