Prior to licensure as a teacher, Miss McMillan began her teaching career as a substitute teacher and teacher assistant. She joined the teaching staff at West Bladen as a part time teacher of the visual arts in the 2019-2020 school year.  She spends her mornings at the castle teaching all levels of art and works at Clarkton School of Discovery in the afternoons.

Mrs. Melvin is a lifelong resident of Bladen County except for 4 years, one in Illinois and 3 in Gaston County, NC. She began her teaching career in Jan. 1981. She taught in Fayetteville NC and Gaston County before returning home to Bladen County Schools. Upon retiring from Bladen County Schools after 27 years of teaching art, she cared for her grandchildren for 8 years. She returned to teaching for 2 years at Boys and Girls Home of Lake Waccamaw. She began teaching art, part-time, at West Bladen in August of 2019.
