Mr. Rodney Smith

Mr. Smith, principal of the Bladen Early College High School (BECHS), comes to BECHS by way of West Bladen High School. At West Bladen he was the assistant principal for the past two years, responsible for 9th and 10th graders, administrator over athletics, and the building level test coordinator.  Prior to working in Bladen County, he was an assistant principal in Rowan-Salisbury School System for 11 years. During this time he was instrumental in turning around schools that were low performing. He has the distinction of the only administrator of the alternative school  past and present to be selected by his peers as assistant principal of the year for the Rowan-County School System. Before coming to work in Rowan County, he spent the better part of his teaching career in Davidson County, where he was a special education teacher, coach, athletic director, mentor to at-risk students and a guidance counselor at the middle and high school levels.   As a counselor he was assigned to work on the Superintendent’s Dropout Task Force Committee, senior counselor responsible for scholarships and writing recommendations for students who applied to institutes of higher learning, an overseer for federal programs and a coach.
