On Tuesday evening, it was brought to the attention of the school's administration by one of their students that the safety of the school’s students and staff had been mentioned as a concern on social media. In response, the school immediately contacted local law enforcement to investigate the concern.
As a precaution, on Wednesday morning the school’s administration and local law enforcement activated book bag checks and walk-through metal detectors. The school and law enforcement were able to swiftly and thoroughly investigate determining there was no immediate or imminent safety threat or concern.
As a precautionary measure and to reassure students and staff, there was an increased police presence at school Wednesday as part of our standard response procedures.
We applaud the students who came forward to report the concern. This is an opportune time to discuss this situation with your children and emphasize that there are severe consequences of such actions through our school’s Code of Conduct, as well as potential legal consequences. Please remind your children about the importance of reporting any suspicious or potentially concerning activity to an adult as soon as possible.
Please know that the safety of our students and staff is one of our primary responsibilities and any mentions of violence, even if deemed not credible, or made in jest are taken very seriously.
We are grateful for the cooperation and assistance of the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, the school administration and staff, and the students.
