The Bladen County Board of Education has declared the former Plain View School property as surplus property and intends to sell the property in accordance with applicable North Carolina law.

The Board of Education declared the former Plain View School property, located at 1909 Chickenfoot Road, Tar Heel, NC, as “surplus, or unnecessary, or undesirable for public school purposes” during its meeting on August 10, 2026. The Board also offered the property for sale to the Bladen County Board of Commissioners at market value. However, the commissioners have declined to purchase the property, so the Board has decided to conduct the sale through the upset bid process.

The Bladen County Board of Education invites all interested parties to submit their initial offers for purchase.

The property, which will be sold “as-is,” consists of approximately 8.26 acres. The Bladen County Geographic Information System lists the total assessed value of the property at $605,580.

Interested parties are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the procedures outlined in North Carolina General Statutes, Chapter 160A, Article 12, and any relevant successor provisions.

For further inquiries regarding the property or information about submitting an initial offer, please contact Karen Larner, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent and Board Clerk, at 910- 862-4136, or via email at kllarner@bladen.k12.nc.us.
