Atkinson has been selected to serve on the Executive Board of the North Carolina School Superintendents’ Association (NCSSA) and has been elected Vice Chairman of the Sandhills Regional Educational Consortium (SREC) Superintendents’ Council and Board of Directors.

The leadership roles reflect opportunities for Atkinson to collaborate with fellow superintendents and educational leaders on issues affecting students, educators and school districts across North Carolina and throughout the southeastern region.

The North Carolina School Superintendents’ Association is the statewide professional organization representing North Carolina’s public school superintendents. The NCSSA Executive Board provides strategic direction and governance for the association while supporting leadership development, collaboration and advocacy on behalf of public education.

Atkinson’s appointment to the NCSSA Executive Board provides Bladen County Schools with representation in statewide discussions involving educational leadership, school improvement and the opportunities and challenges facing public school districts.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve on the Executive Board of the North Carolina School Superintendents’ Association,” Atkinson said. “Public education is strengthened when educational leaders work together to share ideas, advocate for students, and support one another in addressing the challenges and opportunities facing our schools. I look forward to collaborating with colleagues from across North Carolina as we work to ensure every student has access to an excellent education.”

Atkinson’s election as Vice Chairman of SREC’s Superintendents’ Council and Board of Directors will provide an additional opportunity for regional collaboration. SREC brings together public school districts, higher education institutions and educational partners throughout southeastern North Carolina to support professional development, leadership growth, collaboration and initiatives focused on improving educational outcomes.

As Vice Chairman, Atkinson will work alongside other educational leaders to help guide regional priorities and collaborative efforts, including professional learning, leadership development and initiatives that support students and educators.

“I am honored to have been elected Vice Chairman of the Sandhills Regional Educational Consortium,” Atkinson said. “Public education is strongest when leaders work together to share ideas, support one another, and focus on what is best for students.”

For Bladen County Schools, the two leadership roles create opportunities to share the work taking place across the district, learn from other school systems and strengthen partnerships with educational leaders throughout North Carolina.

“These leadership opportunities are an extension of the collaborative work that is so important to public education,” Atkinson said. “When we bring school districts together, we create opportunities to learn from one another, address common challenges and identify practices that can benefit students and families.”

Through his roles with NCSSA and SREC, Atkinson will continue to represent Bladen County Schools in conversations focused on student success, leadership, and continuous improvement while bringing statewide and regional perspectives back to the district.
