While, road conditions have significantly improved, the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for our area due to the possibility of freezing rain overnight. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution all Bladen County Schools and departments will operate on a 2 hour delay tomorrow.

If overnight or early morning conditions require a change to the delay, a decision will be made by 7 am.

We appreciate your cooperation as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff. We encourage everyone to closely monitor all communication channels for additional updates and look forward to seeing you tomorrow morning.

Bladen County Schools will continue with asynchronous remote learning tomorrow, Wednesday, February 4. District administrators have been in communication with the North Carolina Department of Transportation and Bladen County Emergency Services and there continues to be widespread concern with ice on secondary roads.

All events and activities scheduled for Wednesday, February 4 are canceled.

Asynchronous learning means that students will work independently on assignments that teachers have either posted in Canvas, Google Classroom, or sent home with students Friday. Staff will receive information regarding work schedules from their supervisors.

A decision regarding school operations for Thursday, February 5 will be made no later than 6 pm Wednesday.

We appreciate your cooperation as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff, and we encourage everyone to closely monitor all communication channels for additional updates.

Thank you and please stay warm!

Bladen County Schools Families,

Just like you, we are closely monitoring the weather forecast for the upcoming weekend. ☃️ While it is too early to know what will happen, our teachers are planning ahead to ensure students have everything they would need if Monday were to become a remote learning day.

We will make a decision regarding Monday, no later than 3 pm on Sunday, February 1. We encourage you to monitor all of our regular communication channels (Facebook, Website, BCS App) for updates.

The Be Pro Be Proud truck visit to West Bladen was a huge success! All West Bladen students had the opportunity to spend time exploring careers in the areas of: Carpentry, Welding, Plumbing, Pest Control, Electrical, Robotics, Heavy Equipment Operation, Logging Equipment Operation, Line Worker, Truck Driving, etc. Each career represented is in high demand and considered high wage.

The hands-on experience was fully embraced by faculty, staff, community leaders and most importantly our students!

A collaborative robot arm (the kind designed to safely work alongside people) sitting on a workbench. A young student in a red “Be Pro Be Proud” shirt guiding or explaining the robot’s movements. An adult participant using a handheld controller, likely learning how to operate or program the robot. Colorful blocks on the table, suggesting a pick-and-place or precision task. The space itself feels like a mobile STEM lab or robotics trailer, with industrial graphics, tool cabinets, screens, and other stations running in the background.
two people standing at a workbench with a collaborative robot arm (a cobot) in front of them. The robot appears to be stacking or manipulating colorful wooden blocks on a small table. One person (left) looks like they’re guiding or demonstrating the task, while the other (right) is watching closely, maybe learning or supervising. Behind them is a big wall graphic with mechanical schematics and the word “ROBOTICS” in bold red letters, plus a screen playing a promo or demo video—definitely a tech showcase vibe, possibly at a training center, event, or mobile robotics lab.
The scene is inside a full-size or semi-enclosed truck cab simulator, complete with a steering wheel, dashboard gauges, side mirrors, and driver’s seat. A person is seated in the driver’s seat, hands on the wheel, actively “driving.” Another adult is standing just behind and to the side, watching closely—probably instructing, supervising, or observing performance. The windshield and side windows are actually large screens showing a virtual roadway with lanes, trees, and buildings, simulating real driving conditions. The environment looks like an indoor training facility or exhibit space (polished floor, overhead lighting, reflective surfaces).
Inside a mobile training trailer, a person sits in a simulator chair facing a large screen that displays a forestry logging simulation with heavy machinery and trees. An instructor stands to the right, operating a touchscreen control panel, while another person observes from the back. The interior walls feature industrial graphics and safety-themed signage.
Two people are standing at a workbench with a small collaborative robotic arm (the kind used for teaching and light industrial tasks). The robot is set up to pick and place colorful wooden blocks that are spread out on the tabletop. One person is holding a game-style controller, likely driving or programming the robot, while the other is watching closely and assisting. Behind them, the wall is covered with a high-contrast, blueprint-style mural of mechanical components, with the word “ROBOTICS” in bold red letters—very workshop-meets-tech-showroom vibes. There’s also a tablet on the bench that appears to be running the robot’s interface, plus a container holding additional blocks or parts. Overall, it feels like an interactive learning station—something you’d see at a STEM lab, robotics class, or tech expo—focused on teaching robot control, coordination, and automation in a very approachable, hands-on way
A participant is wearing a VR headset and standing at a bucket-truck simulator, practicing tasks you’d do as a power line worker. A trainer/instructor stands in front of them, guiding or coaching them through the exercise. On the left, a monitor shows the VR view—it looks like a virtual worksite with tools and equipment, so the trainee can see exactly what they’d experience in the field. The booth branding includes “Lineman” and visuals of real utility work, suggesting this is designed for job training, safety practice, or workforce development. The setup mimics real conditions but in a controlled, safe environment, which is great for learning without real-world risk.
A welding simulation station (the blue Miller AugmentedArc unit) set up on a workbench. A young person wearing a welding helmet, actively practicing or being guided through a weld. Another person close by (likely an instructor or mentor) helping position the helmet or giving instruction. An older man observing from the side, watching attentively. The space itself looks like a construction or trades training trailer / classroom, with big wall graphics, screens showing instructional content, and the word “CONSTRUCTION” prominently displayed. Overall vibe: education + workforce training, probably introducing welding or skilled trades in a safe, simulated environment before real welding.
A branded “Welding Station” booth (Miller logo on the table). One person wearing a welding helmet, holding a simulated torch and practicing on a small mock workpiece. Another person in a red shirt standing beside them, watching the real-time simulation on a wall-mounted screen. The screen shows a virtual weld bead, with stats like angle, speed, and position—typical training feedback. The whole setup feels like a career fair, trade expo, or skills training event, focused on teaching welding safely without real sparks.
Inside a mobile welding training trailer, three people stand around a welding simulator station. One person wearing a welding helmet practices on a tabletop simulator while a woman gestures toward instructional screens on the wall labeled “Welding Station.” Another person watches from the side. The space has industrial-themed walls, monitors displaying welding visuals, and a workbench with equipment.
In the foreground, a woman in a black hoodie is pointing up at a large vertical screen on the left that shows what looks like a crane or heavy-equipment simulation (a tree, load, and trailer are visible). A man sitting beside her is watching closely, holding a controller, like he’s the one actually “driving” in the simulator. Behind them, a couple of other people in red shirts are working at a tool bench and another screen, which gives the whole place a training or trade-show vibe. The walls are decorated with technical, blueprint-style graphics of machinery, reinforcing the industrial / equipment theme. Overall, it feels like someone is explaining how to operate the crane or pointing out what to do next in the simulation—very coach-and-trainee energy.
